People may encounter various unexpected safety issues during the leak detection work of the airtightness detector, and even a slight negligence can lead to personal and equipment safety accidents. So special attention should be paid to safety in leak detection work. Explain to everyone some safety operating procedures and preventive measures that should be followed in leak detection.
1、 Requirements for leak detection personnel
1. Leak detection personnel should attach great importance to safety
The application of leak detection technology is very wide, and the working conditions vary, so there is currently no complete set of safe operating procedures that can be applied to all leak detection occasions. Leak detection personnel need to be aware of the dangers of their work, receive appropriate training, attach great importance to existing safety operating procedures, and pay attention to various safety issues during operation based on the actual situation of leak detection in order to protect their own and surrounding personnel's personal safety. In many cases, leak detection work requires harsh conditions to be carried out. In addition to mastering professional skills in leak detection, it is necessary to maintain a clear mind and prioritize safety in any situation.
2. Leak detection personnel need to undergo safety training
Only through training can leak detection personnel have a correct understanding and attitude towards safety issues. The training content should not only include the factors and degree of hazards that may arise during leak detection, but also include preventive measures for various hazards and first aid and lifesaving techniques. After training, leak detection personnel can become familiar with the characteristics of toxic, flammable, explosive, and corrosive dust, liquids, or gases, as well as the methods of using and storing these harmful substances. They can also learn first aid methods for responding to emergencies. Only through training can they have the ability to handle safety issues.
3. Leak detection personnel must strictly abide by safety production rules
Leak detection personnel should ensure safe production and strictly implement the safety production rules formulated by relevant departments.
2、 Safety measures for using leak gas in leak detection
In terms of gas leakage safety, in addition to considering the possibility of pressure vessel explosion, factors such as flammability, suffocation, or special physiological effects should also be taken into account. As long as leak detection technicians are familiar with these safety measures, it is possible to perform leak detection on a container at a small cost.
Helium is widely used as a leak gas in helium mass spectrometry leak detection. It is a light member of the rare gas family and a chemically inert, colorless, odorless gas. Helium is non-toxic, but it can also cause suffocation when it replaces the amount of air needed to sustain life. Due to its low density, helium tends to rise to the top of enclosed containers or enclosures, causing suffocation of personnel working at these heights. So we need to pay close attention to the helium leakage problem in the helium device.
3、 Safety measures for transportation and storage of compressed gas cylinders
Most of the gases used in leak detection are contained in steel cylinders, which are manufactured and stored in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Their capacity will be clearly marked in capital letters on each cylinder.
Many major accidents are caused by the misuse, abuse, or misuse of compressed gas cylinders. The management personnel of compressed gas cylinders should work carefully under sufficient supervision. Compliance with regulations will help control the hazards of compressed gas cylinders in management.
1. Only approved steel cylinders are allowed to transport compressed gases.
2. The numbers or markings on the steel cylinder cannot be removed or changed.
3. Unless a protective cap is installed on the steel cylinder, it is not allowed to move. Due to the shape, smooth surface, and heavy weight of steel cylinders, it is very dangerous to move them by hand. When they are moved without a vehicle, some kind of handling tool should be used. Steel cylinders can roll using their bottom tilt, but they must not be dragged.
4. Protect the steel cylinder from cutting and scratching.
5. Electromagnets cannot be used to lift compressed gas cylinders. When it is necessary to raise the steel difference to a higher experimental site, a crane or tower crane is required. Use a steel cylinder trolley or similar device to transport them, and be very careful to ensure that they do not fall off.
6. Do not cause the steel cylinder to fall or violently impact other steel cylinders.
7. Steel cylinders cannot be used as drums, supports, or for any other purpose other than gas filling.
8. Do not manipulate the valves and safety devices on the steel cylinder at will.
When there are doubts about the correct control of compressed gas cylinders or their content, it is necessary to consult the gas supplier in a timely manner.
When an empty bottle is returned to the seller, it should be marked with chalk with the words' empty 'and marked, the valve should be closed, and the valve protection valve should be reinstalled.
11. Transport a large number of steel cylinders within the smallest possible range of activity, but protect the cylinders to prevent violent impact or tipping over.
12. Once one begins to believe that the steel cylinders are full and manages them with considerable attention, if only partial pressure or empty is found, a leak has already occurred.
13. During use, safety chains should be used to protect steel cylinders and prevent accidental falls.
4、 Safety Guidelines for Using Compressed Gas Cylinders
1. Use steel cylinders in an upright position and protect them to prevent accidental overturning.
When the steel cylinder is not in use, the metal frame should be placed on the head of the cylinder to protect the valve. A blow on an unprotected valve may cause high-pressure gas to escape.
3. Check the threads of the pressure regulator and do not forcefully connect them to inappropriate threads.
4. Slowly open the valve of the steel cylinder. For steel cylinder valves without handwheels, use a wrench or other tools provided or approved by the gas supplier to open them.
5. Compressed gas cylinders without pressure reducing regulating valves connected to the cylinder cannot be used.
6. In addition to hydrogen cylinders, before connecting to the outlet end of the cylinder valve, hit the valve instantly to remove dust and dirt particles from the upper opening of the valve. It should be emphasized that the valve opening should not face anyone, and the operator should wear safety goggles.
7. Only regulators and pressure gauges suitable for this gas can be used, as these regulators and pressure gauges are designed and conceptualized for this gas. Do not attempt to repair or modify cylinders, valves, or accessories. Repair or modification work can only be completed by the manufacturing plant.
When there is a leak between the steel cylinder and the regulator, the valve of the steel cylinder should be tightly closed first, and no attempt should be made to stop it by tightening the nut.
9. Heavy objects, sparks, molten metal, electrical current, waste heat, or flames are not allowed to come into contact with steel cylinders or accessories.
10. Do not bring gas cylinders into containers or poorly ventilated rooms.
11. Except with the consent of the cylinder owner and in compliance with relevant regulations, it is not allowed to inflate the cylinder, attempt to mix gas in compressed gas cylinders, or use the cylinder for other purposes not allowed by the supplier.
12. Use a wrench of appropriate size to secure all measuring instruments and rubber tubes, and do not use pliers.
13. Do not tighten the threaded fasteners on the steel cylinder accessories too tightly or damage the threaded teeth.
5、 Safety measures for using valves or regulators on steel cylinders
To maintain a uniform supply of gas, a regulating valve or pressure reducing valve should be used on the gas cylinder. When opening the valve on the steel cylinder, technicians should stand aside and leave the pressure gauge dial of the regulator, always wearing safety goggles to avoid eye attacks from sprayed particles. Each regulator needs to be equipped with a high pressure gauge (indicating capacity) and a low pressure gauge (indicating working pressure).
